Summer Camp For Grown-Ups
As in, "A SWIRL of Activities"
Pacific
South-West Institute of Religious Liberals
We meet every August for a week at Camp de Benneville Pines, located in the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains near Angelus Oaks, California. Click here for the latest program and flyer.
Mission Statement: We are an extended family, building community, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and acceptance, dedicated to personal growth, developing a larger social consciousness, and welcoming diverse ideas.

The UU-oriented nonprofit Pacific SouthWest Institute of Religious Liberals welcomes you to their annual event at beautiful Camp de Benneville Pines in Angelus Oaks, California. Relax, swim, or take part in a wide variety of workshops and activities -- it's up to you!
PSWIRL sponsors a relaxed camp in the mountains for people who enjoy nature and an interesting program of activities. A theme speaker provides challenges, information, and philosophy. The setting is one of warmth and acceptance, where people’s ideas and feelings are valued and validated. Each person is able to set his/her own goals and program for the week. Daytime activities may be active or contemplative. Evening activities may include dancing, discussions, movies, puzzles, cards, astronomy, improvisation, and/or a talent show. At the closing ceremony we review the week’s camp and provide suggestions for the future.
This camp is like an extended family which functions in an atmosphere of mutual respect and acceptance. It is dedicated to personal growth and social development, and it welcomes new and diverse ideas.
Delicious meals are served in Homet Lodge, with vegetarian or vegan entrees offered if requested with registration. Cabins are comfortable if rustic, with shared bathrooms and showers.
Camp de Benneville Pines is owned and operated by the
Unitarian Universalist Pacific Southwest District. It is at 6,800 feet altitude
in the San Bernardino National Forest among towering pines, oaks and cedars
with Barton Creek nearby, and Jenks Lake within walking distance. There
are no buildings between Camp de Benneville Pines and Mt. San
Gorgonio, the
highest mountain in southern California (11,500 feet), so this location is
truly a nature gem!
2012 per person costs range from $350 to $485 depending on the type of accommodation you select and when you pay. Prices include all meals and workshops for the week. Ask the Registrar about partial scholarships. The rich program includes a long list of workshops, diversity of activities and our guest Theme Speaker, Rev. Matthew Crary.
Join us in our beautiful mountain camp as we welcome newcomers and greet old friends! Experience for yourself the varied offerings of PSWIRL week.
The 2013 PSWIRL Camp is from Saturday, August 17 through Thursday, August 22
2013 Theme Speaker:
Tom
Owen-Towle (Unitarian Universalist
Minister Emeritus, First Universalist Unitarian
Church of San Diego) "Nurturing
Our Whole Being"
The key to a healthy existence is
nourishing six zones of the Self: body, mind, heart, spirit, conscience, and
soul. Through presentation and exercises, we will explore the challenges of each
zone. We can never fully repay the Creation for the gift of our existence, but
we can
respond through taking good (not perfect) care of our selves.
