The Pacific SouthWest Institute for Religious
Liberals (PSWIRL) will
hold their annual adult
camp at Camp deBenneville Pines from
Sunday,
August 23 through Friday, August 28,
1998. This Camp and Conference
Center is owned
and operated by the Unitarian Universalist
Pacific
Southwest District. It is at 6,800 feet
altitude in the San
Bernardino National Forest
among towering Ponderosa pines, oaks
and
cedars. It has an Olympic-size heated
swimming pool and a large hot
tub.
Theme speaker Dr. Natalie Houghtby-Haddon's
topic is Gender and
Justice in the City
(Heavenly and here-and-now). Ms.
Houghtby-Haddon
has been Minister of the First
Methodist Church in Torrance, is
currently an
Urban Minister, an instructor at the Claremont School
of
Theology, and Acting President of Immaculate
Heart College.
PSWIRL offers a large selection of workshops
including personal
growth, writing, folk
dancing, yoga and meditation, body
movement,
massage, puppet making, sing-along,
drawing, hiking and nature walks,
astronomy,
etc. You can also enjoy swimming, evening programs,
Happy
Hours, videos, and a Talent Show. Our
facilitators include Rose
Ramsey, Leslie Levy,
Susan Ziemer, Beth Perkins, Betsy Walters,
Sunni
Eckhardt, Laurel Quinn, Marsha Fenner,
Louise Dobbs, Marcia Harris,
Barbara Reinhart,
Harriet Blumencranz, Manon Washburn and
Peter
Landecker.
The cost ranges from $260 to $370, depending on
the type of
accommodation you select, and
includes all meals and workshops. We
recommend
early registration! You can get a discount by
registering
before July 4th or bringing a
newcomer.
